Me v. the Postman, Round 1

The post office refuses to leave things at my door, so if I miss the mailman then I have to go to the main post office to pick it up. Of course, that does not work at all with my school schedule, so if I'm expecting a package, I try my best to be home so that I can avoid that hassle.

I had a knit picks order that was supposed to arrive on Saturday (according to USPS tracking). It didn't. I watched the mailman drive away and I was left with no yarn. I was a little sad to say the least. I'm planning to make the Tomato sweater by Wendy Bernard and I really just wanted to play with the yarn. (Don't lie - you all know that feeling!)

This morning, I rushed home after my morning at school for the sole purpose of getting that dang package. I had my windows open so that I could see then the mail truck drove up. He arrived. He left. No package!! I went out to check my mailbox & there was a card telling me that I could pick up my precious yarn at 7:30 the next morning.

The guy never even bothered to knock on my door! Angry and desperately jonesing for a yarn fix, I ran back to my apartment to grab my car keys and I chased him down the road. That's right - it was me versus the mail truck, and I was determined to win. He finally stopped about a half mile down the road and I zipped my little Civic in behind him and whipped out the little orange "you have a package" card. He looked at me like I was a crazy woman, but he handed the yarny goodness over to me. He mumbled something to me about "just missing me" and I politely said, "I guess so."

So, needless to say, I'm now the neighborhood freak who stalks the postal workers. I am not sure that I'm ever going to be able to get deliveries again. I'm definitely on the blacklist. However, the yarn was all worth it.

I wound up with some Shine Worsted on sale, so the sweater is costing me less than $25 to complete. Plus, there was a miscount & they sent me one more skein than was ordered. Yay for free yarn!!

Have a great week everyone!

Excellent! That'll teach the lazy bum to not get out of his car and make deliveries! Good for you!

Geez - my mailman does it too, but has a variant. He comes to deliver a package and doesn't ring the bell. So he throws the mail through the mail slot and walks away. If it is a package that requires a signature, you get the slip even though you were there. If it doesn't, he plays hide the package. Sometimes he puts it between the storm door and the inside door which would be fine if we ever used that door (we usually come in thru the kitchen so things can sit there for weeks) or else he hides it somewhere on the porch - often hanging over so that it falls down behind the bushes.

I have stalked the post man before. Right before I got married I was waiting on a box on a Monday and I waited all day to get it, no box at the door... I got and check the mail box... Nothing. The next day I got a slip from the apt. complex telling me that my package had arrived the first day and that I could pick it up from them any time between 9am and 3pm... M-F. Great, My only day off between school (TR 7am-8pm) and work (WFS 7am-11pm) was either Sunday or Monday after I got off from my first job... It took a week to get that stuff! The complex told me no exceptions to the rule (I am still wondering how people working in Charlotte at real jobs managed to get their packages...)

Any mailman who knows what he's doing should know that anything with "Knit" in the address requires special handling. I'm surprised that you're the first one to chase him down.

Dude, don't let the stalking stop there. Let the post office know!

Too funny on the postman. I hate when they leave that stupid card on the door. Great yarn - it was totally worth stalking the postman for!!

We don't have that problem with the USPS in our apartment but UPS, DHL, etc always do that to us. It got so bad that the leasing office finally said that they would only take packages that need to be signed for because they were tired of getting all the packages.

I can't wait to see Tomato. That has been in my Ravelry queue for awhile now!

Good for you. Don't people realise not to mess with our yarn??!! That will teach him! I laughed so hard the dog came in to see what was going on.

HEY! I got my package yesterday [it was small enough to go in the mail box ;-)]! OMG! I got my first pair of ADDIS!!!! OMG thank you so much! My step son came over for lunch when I got it and he just didn't understand getting excited about a needle... I am hoping to get pics up today after work (and my nap)...

Here here... the yarn is always worth it ;-) I think I'd be doing the same thing.

Good for you going after the mailman to get your yarn!!! I would have the the same thing in that situation. No one rings the bell any more here - takes too much time I guess - but our mailman and ups person leaves our packages regardless in full sight of everyone else but the person inside the house. Sure hope you enjoy knitting with your new yarn :)

Yay, you, for chasing down the postman. :)
Nothing should get in the way of us and our yarn.
I am so glad my postman gets out and leaves the packages, even if we aren't home.

Was going through the KnitBloggers ring and came across your blog. I will definitely be back.

Ha! I too have stalked the postman, and missed him (those darn one way side streets.....). Glad you tracked him down :-) The yarn is more than worth it.
