An unexpected cable problem

I'm one of those knitters who gets on a kick of something and can't seem to stop. The latest is a cables. I started this scarf tonight, and unless I'm just absolutely insane.. my scarf looks nothing like the picture on the pattern. My cables are the traditional twist while their picture makes it look more like an upside down V.

Don't get me wrong, I really like how mine is turning out. I stared at the pattern all night trying to figure out what I've done, and I get nothing. Any advice is appreciated. Posted by Picasa

I think you're doing it just right - the photo of that pattern is from a very high perspective (looking down at the scarf) and if you look at your scarf in the same way, looking down at it (put it at arms length for good measure) it'll start to look like upside down v's also - but looking at it straight on, it'll always look like it does in the photo you provided. Doing the pattern tighter (as suggested in the pattern) may also help give it the "popped" look from the photo in the pattern. Hope this helps!

(It looks great, btw, nice color choice!)

I looked at the photo of the pattern and yeah, it looks different, but not that much. I also LOVE yours, esp. the degree of height you got on your cables. Mine's underway when I'm not sleeping off Benadryl (got an allergic reaction after my surgery). I'm feeling very competent that the cables come so easily and look so impressive.

I also love the other one you did that looks like a snake wrestling match! I immediately went to look at that pattern--thanks for showing it.

Ooooooh that's gorgeous! I think you're doing it right. I think it's the direction of the photo that's throwing you off. If her photo was dead-on straight, I think they'd be the same.

Keep going! It's wonderful!!!!!
